2026 Princess Grace Artist Fellowship

Ends on

A new partnership with the MAP Fund’s Scaffolding for Practicing Artists (SPA), the Princess Grace Artist Fellowship pairs direct financial support with participation in SPA’s innovative coaching program.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Early career Artists: You received a Princess Grace Award or Honoraria between 2019–2025 (as defined for the 2026 grant cycle).
  • Artists in Major Artistic Transition: You received your Award or Honoraria prior to 2019, and are undergoing a significant shift in your artistic practice, such that you are facing challenges similar to early career artists. For the purposes of the Princess Grace Artist Fellowship, a major artistic transition refers to a substantive shift in an artist’s practice, discipline, or medium within the Foundation’s supported fields of theater, dance, and film.

Examples of major artistic transitions include:

  • A performance-based artist (such as an actor or dancer) moving into generative creative work, such as writing, directing, or choreography
  • Filmmaker transitioning from animation to live-action work

Examples that are not considered major artistic transitions:

  • Expanding within an existing role or discipline
  • Shifts in artistic style or content within the same practice
  • Professional development within an established mid-career trajectory

WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching is a creative, collaborative endeavor between you and your coach, to address overall goals, specific projects, or general conditions in your life or profession. It is holistic, asset-based, generative, and future-facing. You play a critical role in co-designing the coaching container. Coaching services may include setting priorities, establishing goals, identifying resources and strategies, brainstorming, creating action plans, asking questions, and making direct requests, among other things. Coaching is not advice, counseling, or therapy.

OVERVIEW OF THE EXPERIENCE

Coaching: Up to 7 sessions of 45-90 minutes

Gathering: Occurring virtually over a two-day period, MAP Fund requests that the artist complete at least 4 coaching sessions prior to attending. The artist receives a $1,100 stipend to be present at the gathering.

Communication: The artist agrees to communicate in a clear and timely manner with their coach and MAP Fund staff. If an artist does not communicate with a coach for more than 2 months, MAP Fund staff will initiate contact to determine if the artist wants to continue.

Forfeiture of Sessions: Save for one "freebie," the artist agrees that a coaching session will be forfeited if:

  • Artist cancels a session with less than 24-hours notice
  • Artist does not show up to a session and gives no notice

*Exceptions are made for natural disasters, emergencies, and sudden illness.

Commitment: Artist understands that coaching is organic and commits to actively collaborate with their coach to set expectations and goals.
